Innovate – A Public Sector Innovation Management Conference
The Innovate Conference on innovation management in the public sector took place on April 26, 2017. It was organized in collaboration with the Austrian Federal Chancellery (Bundeskanzleramt), the Vienna University of Business and Economics, the Hertie School of Governance, the City of Vienna and Contrast-EY.
Innovate 2017 was focusing on the following central questions:
- How can we adress known challenges while preparing for the unknown?
- What role do state, society, academia and economy play in finding solutions for these challenges?
- How can we ensure that all parts of society are taken into consideration?
- How can we improve efficiency, effectivity and acceptance of decisions, processes and services? What methods and instruments can support us?

The ViennaGovJam is an interdisciplinary innovation camp that took place on the 17th and 18th of May 2017.
In 2017, for the fifth time ever in over 80 cities worldwide, and for the second time in Vienna, people from politics and the public sector met with each other in a new setting in order to develop innovative solutions for the current challenges in the public sector. In focus at the two-day event was the development of innovations through Workshops that were user-focused, interdisciplinary, collaborative, and practice-oriented.
Similar to a “Jam” with musicians, an innovation jam consists of team work, open structure and fun. A concrete result in the form of ideas or models for new public services is not explicitly required; however, they always come out of the process anyways! By the end of the workshops, participants will have had the opportunity to try Design Thinking methods, providing them with useful tools that they can apply to their daily jobs – in this way, the Jam is also a professional development opportunity for practitioners.
The event was hosted by Wonderwerk for the first time on the 1st and 2nd of June 2016. Take a look at the Highlights here!
